In collaborations with Coldplay, Showpower’s founders helped build the world’s first tourable and mobile SmartGrid battery system designed specifically for Coldplay’s stadium tour across the world.
Objective: Reduce / omit the traditional use of diesel generators and utilise stadium grid connections using the SmartGrid battery system which would significantly reduce / eliminate carbon emissions from power and energy on the tour.
Challenges: Deploying a battery system in environments where it had never been done before alongside difficulties obtaining mains grid connections at stadiums. Aligning on stakeholders on the tour, at the venue and within municipalities in an industry not used to change was incredibly challenging.
Outcome: Using the battery system contributed to a 59% reduction of total tour emissions in comparison to the previous Coldplay tour.
Highlights: Use of mains grid power to charge the battery system which substantially reduce generator runtime while field-testing a brand-new solution in a highly-demand critical power environment without failure. Finally, powering 10 shows at Wembley Stadium and 4 shows at Rogers Stadium in Toronto completely from the grid without any diesel generators used. A world first for any major artist.
